Mangueira was the champion of the 2016 carnival competition with its tribute to Maria Bethânia. This documentary highlights the peculiar religiosity of the singer, who is a devoted Catholic and candomblé follower. It delves into the construction of this carnival, from the sketches of the first images to the parades on the street. The film follows Maria Bethânia to the Bahia’s Recôncavo basin, as she engages in familial and religious environments and takes part of celebrations in her hometown, Santo Amaro. It portrays the universe that inspired the lyrics and unveiling some influences that the Recôncavo had in Rio’s samba.
