Dorival Caymmi made over 100 songs throughout his career. Enough to become one of Brazilian Popular Music greatest composers. His style is unique: simple lyrics and a guitar beat like no other. An artist by essence, he expressed what he saw in his own life, not only through music, but also through drawing and painting. From his childhood to the present day, the documentary shows the life journey of one of the founders of Brazilian Popular Music, affectionately considered by some as the mother of bossa nova.
Moving testimonies of family members - such as his children Nana, Dori and Danilo Caymmi and his sister Dinahir Caymmi, friends and great artists of the Brazilian scene, such as Maria Bethânia, Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Ângela Maria, Bibi Ferreira, Paulo Jobim and Hermínio Bello de Carvalho - old interviews, photographs and period images build the scenery and stories lived by Caymmi. With nowadays images from Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, the film intends to show the influence of nature and "the little things in life" in the process of composing his songs. Whether in "O Mar" (The Sea), "O Vento" (The Wind), "Maracangalha" or in “O que é que a baiana tem”, his work is the expression of an artist like very few others, who has the expertise to do something simple, but sophisticated at the same time.
